I still play the game quite regularly and you can tell it was made by hardcore gamers for hardcore gamers. Grim dawn is a close second when it comes to similar skills but it just doesn’t have the same feeling of having an army of the dead cutting their way through a lot of demons.īut ya no this isn’t a “rose tinted glasses” opinion.
REDDIT DIABLO 2 SERIES
Despite shit resolutions and outdated graphics this game series was meant to be a hella dark and gloomy dungeon crawling experience and in that regard diablo 2 fuckin kills it.Īs a bonus I also personally feel like the necromancer in diablo 2 is literally the best version of that type of class I have ever seen in a game. The oppressive gothic atmosphere mixed with a feeling of smashing back the demotic tides in a lot of tough fights where everything reenforces the atmosphere of the game is something not many can achieve. You could spend hours picking apart each of the pieces of any game but it’s how they all came together in diablo 2 that makes it special. Diablo 3 and many other games tend to fail in this regard in some way or another. Following the champion from the first game as they lost the battle for their soul thanks to diablos soul stone being embedded in their forehead was interesting as was learning about all of the different bosses and areas. I’m not as well versed in the total lore of the universe but for me at least diablo 2 felt much more of a true diablo game in this way. Exploring each of the acts really made me personally feel like the world was going to shit and the demons were absolutely winning their invasion. Secondly while I’ll totally admit that the second game is dated in terms of graphics compared to modern day competitors it managed to be utterly oozing with the depressing and gory gothic theme of the game. Diablo 3 in my book missed the mark completely because they allowed you to change stuff on the fly so it lacks the in-depth thought you had to do every time you leveled up.Įnvironments. Diablo 2 allowed you to do a lot of crazy builds that not many games have managed to recreate. First and foremost having several different trees that you could pick to spend points towards skills really made progression feel unique and rewarding. This is just my straight opinion but I have played the diablo games growing up and there are a few reasons why I personally feel like it beats the crap out of a lot of other ARPG’s.Ĭlass skill trees. The game doesn’t stand out to me, but the praise must come from somewhere? This isn’t a hate post or anything, I’m genuinely just curious. So I was wondering what people actually like about D2? What is it that I’m missing? Because I hear nothing but good things about this game, and kind of want to try it again, but I’m not sure if it’s something I’m missing or if it’s just the game isn’t for me? I think my biggest problem, was it felt very dated, and it felt weird (if not just straight up bad) stepping back in terms of convenience and accessibility. I played for maybe an hour, before getting bored and refunding because I honestly disliked the game.

It was around season 13 maybe(?) that I decided to pick up D2 our of boredom. I played pretty casually up until the later seasons, where I actually started working towards pushing GR80+, and I probably have a few hundred hours in the game.

My experience with Diablo started with D3 a few years back, in the earlier seasons, maybe 4/6 ish. I’m looking for a genuine idea of why this game is good or why I should play it Atleast? Want an idea of why people enjoy 2 in the hopes that It might convince me to pick it back up again. TL:DR Played a lot of D3, tried 2 but didn’t enjoy it.
